Less is More: Island Kiss organic lip moisturisers
Personally, through seasons of bleak skies to humid summers, lip balm is a bare necessity. I don’t exclusively use natural or organic products, but I try to keep my personal routine to a bare minimum. Recently I came across a new Indian brand called My Island Kiss, (based in Goa). They’ve launched three variants of organic lip moisturisers that I have tried since past few weeks.
With flavour names like Alma Vanilla & Ignes Lavender, Cherry Blossom Flores and Puerto Berry Blush, and packaging that looks eclectic with a vintage-esque feel, it’s easy to write off these colorful balms as gimmicky. But there’s no mystery about what you are putting on your lips – the all natural ingredients are listed on the front of the tube. Each of these balm has the highly nourishing combination of organic kokum butter, pure castor oil, and organic beeswax. The lip balms have a slanted tip applicator, making it easy to directly apply the balm on the lips. These are very hydrating and lend softness to the lips by a translucent organic oil and vitamin amalgamation. My personal favorite is the Puerto Berry Blush. There’s a little more about each variant below.
The Alma Vanilla & Inges Lavender flavour has a mild vanilla and lavender scent that is almost nostalgic. The baby pink tint it imparts on swathing is a nude gloss on the lips. It’s the perfect alternative for me as I prefer no tint on my lips.
The Cherry Blossom Flores variant has a balmy cherry blossom scent and a pale pink tint. I love the pastel palette but on application – it makes me look washed out. For the ones who lean minimalist and have pale or un-pigmented lips, you can apply it blind and still get it correct.
Puerto Berry Blush invokes a burst of flavours that instantly remind you of summers with smells of berries and citrus. Personally, tinted lip balms are an off duty reprieve and this variant fits perfectly. It leaves a subtle reddish – pink tint that looks downright good specially on Indian skin – and it’s oh so moisturising.
Who doesn’t want to reduce their toxic load? So, if you are looking for non-toxic, organic and sustainable products, do try these lip balms.
